NEMT

Non-Emergency Medical Transportation

MTA provides Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) service to residents of Nicholas County, West Virginia.  This service is for people qualified for Medicaid benefits who do not have transportation to and from medical appointments.
In order for Medicaid to pay for NEMT service, certain conditions must be met:
  • Transportation must be provided both ways.  If you use this service and do not use the NEMT van to return home, you will be responsible for payment of the trip.
  • Medicaid will not pay for trips to medical appointments for Social Security Disability, Veteran’s Hospitals, or Worker’s Compensation.  If your Medicaid card will not pay for your doctor’s visit, it will not pay for the transportation.
  • NEMT service is for medical appointments only.  NEMT vans cannot stop at pharmacies, grocery stores or restaurants during NEMT service.
  • Medicaid allows for one person to accompany a NEMT passenger at no charge.  If additional individuals are needed to accompany the patient, they will have to make advanced payment according to our sliding-fee scale.
Passengers who need to use our NEMT service who do not qualify for Medicaid benefits can schedule NEMT service based on our sliding-fee scale.  This scale is based on monthly income.  Private-pay passengers will be required to pay in advance of the date of their trip.

NEMT service is limited to in-state medical appointments.  Appointments are made on a first come/first served basis so it is best to call to book your transportation just as soon as you have made your doctor’s appointment.

Passengers with a habit of cancelling or not showing up for NEMT transportation will be removed from the NEMT client list.  Those passengers will still be able to utilize MTA’s other transportation service for a fee.  Also, children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.  Under no circumstance are children to be left alone in the van with the NEMT driver.
